Overall Impression
Seattle-based vocalist Trudy Holland serves up a stellar version of one of rock music's most beloved duets, with her cover of Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty's "Stop Draggin' my Heart Around." Originally penned by Petty and Heartbreakers' guitarist Mike Campbell, producer Jimmy Iovine arranged for the song to be the featured single from Nicks' 1981 solo album Bella Donna, and the rest is history. Holland put together a top shelf blues rock band for this project, as the group perfectly captures the energy and spirit of the original. The vocal performances are on point as well, with both Holland and her "Tom Petty" cohort delivering powerful, gripping performances that will satisfy even the most discerning Nicks fans. Classic rock enthusiasts won't want to miss Trudy Holland's faithful rendition of "Stop Draggin' my Heart Around", available now on all major streaming platforms.
Strongest Point(s)
Outstanding production, excellent mix. Terrific choice of a cover. Great tonal balance and clarity. Fantastic energy straight from the top, intro is played note-perfect. Band sounds amazing; rhythm section is sitting comfortably in the pocket, while the organ and guitar leads are spot on tonally. Backing vox sit well in the mix and provide wonderful color and texture. Both lead vocalists give exceptional performances here, their voices blend very well and retain the approach and character of the originals. This song has always carried with it a lot of attitude and swagger, and that comes across strongly in this production. Overall, this is a tremendous version of a well-known and highly esteemed classic from two of rock's biggest luminaries. Brilliant work on this one, by everyone involved!
