By January of ’21 and feeling cooped up, music became an activity outlet for us in our home. Often I find the story behind the birth of a song as meaningful as the story in the Lyrics. During some reading I learned that Sam Cooke & J Alexander wrote a spiritual song for the gospel group he was a part of called the Soul Stirrers….called "Stand By Me Father” with inspirations from Psalms 46.2. Then Ben E King was inspired by that song to write “Stand By Me”. It seems that over 400 artists including John Lennon, Cassius Clay & Otis Redding. Ben E King originally wrote it for the Drifters, but they passed on it. One story implies that with spare time left after recording Spanish Harlem, Ben E King recorded the song himself. The song went to #1 on the R&B charts and #122 of the Top 500 songs of all time on the Rolling Stone Mag charts. Pat reached out to the gifted Denny Hemmingson for help on recording the music, and with a bit of Pat;’s touch in it I had the music. Then it sat unfinished until the past week, when I felt it was time as it spoke to some of my feelings for the Ukrainian people. Available online soon in Dolby ATMOS.
