One of my favorite songs from the 80’s was These Dreams by Heart in 1986. The song, written from a new partnership between Martin Page and Bernie Taupin. Bernie was the famed long time collaborator with Elton John. The song was originally titled Boys in the Mist to be offered to Stevie Nicks, who passed it by, after which Page retitled it to These Dreams. It was then offered to Kim Kearns by Page,, she turned it down due to a difficult vocal range. Heart then picked up the song. The ballad was recorded with Nancy Wilson as the lead vocal rather than Ann. Oddly, Nancy recorded it with a cold and it came out a bit raspy. These Dreams was Hearts first #1 hit. While no-one can recreate what Nancy & Heart recorded, I wanted to morph the song to a different arrangement keeping a “Mystical Ballad” sound. After taking a demo track created with Lyle Ronglien, we took the song Blackbird Studios in Nashville and the help of Ben Fowler and some amazing session artist the work was completed for me to finish my own recording, which was a bit of a challenge… again, all of my efforts are just for fun…and that it was I am so thankful to all those who helped !!
